Emma Holman-West was host, on Friday 6th May, to The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP when he visited Alscot Estate along with parliamentary colleague, and MP for Stratford upon Avon, Nadhim Zahawi.

Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills was invited to the thriving Warwickshire country Estate to meet personnel from a range of diverse businesses and enterprises based on the 4,500 acre site at Atherstone on Stour. He was interested to establish what the Estate is doing for local businesses and also in seeing the future vision for land that is proposed for employment use, which is greatly needed in the local area.

Whilst being served coffee from Alscot based tenant, Monsoon Estates, Emma, an innovative business leader herself, introduced both MP’s to two apprentices, CJ Cruxton and Amy Brown, at The Bell, Alderminster. Nadhim Zahawi is the Work Placement and Apprenticeship Scheme advisor to David Cameron.

The visit took in 19 hectares of land proposed as an employment allocation as part of the Local Authority’s Draft Core Strategy, and a former WWII RAF tower that is now utilised to house a satellite mast providing high speed broadband to businesses located in this rural community.

Leena and Avnish Malde introduced the Secretary of State and Nadhim to their family firm, Wealmoor, a 150,000 ft² vegetable packing warehouse located on the Estate and recognised for pioneering developments in the global fresh produce industry, by taking a tour of the factory.  Wealmoor, a leading grower, importer and supplier to UK retailers and wholesale sectors that specialise in the supply and delivery of fresh exotic fruit and speciality vegetables, employ over 500 people at their Atherstone on Stour site. The Secretary of State was interested to hear Wealmoor’s possible plans of expansion, which could potentially add another 60,000 ft² of warehouse space, and bring further employment to the area.
